Get Moving to Help Relieve Low Back Pain

When your back is aching and causing discomfort or pain, you may be tempted to just stay still. However, getting in some physical movement (as tolerated) can actually help relieve tight muscles and pain.



Stretching and other forms of exercise can help loosen up the muscles in your back, which can lead to relief from pain. If you’re not used to exercising, start slowly and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.

Of course, always listen to your body and stop if you feel any additional pain. But in general, getting moving can be an effective way to find back pain relief. When you’re dealing with back pain, the last thing you may want to do is get up and move around. However, research has shown that getting some movement can actually help relieve tight muscles and pain.

Stretching is a great way to ease back pain. Taking some time to stretch out your back muscles can help loosen them up and provide some relief. If you’re not sure how to stretch properly, our doctors & physical therapists have plenty of resources available to hlep you get the guidance you need.

In addition to stretching, light activity can also help relieve back pain. Walking, swimming, or doing some other gentle exercises can help keep your back muscles strong and healthy. Just be sure to listen to your body and not overdo it!
